FUN Art and Updating a Best Seller

This week we were learning about the 4 seasons. I don't introduce the 4 seasons or talk about them at calendar until this week, so I was excited to talk about each season so we could add this to our daily calendar routine.

I start the week of learning about the seasons with this book
 by Gail Gibbons.

We talk about the tilt of the Earth and how it creates the seasons. We discuss how the sun is out longer in the summer, even after we go to bed... but in the winter the sun is down before dinner is even over. The more sunlight day after day... makes our area warmer. The less sunlight day after day... makes our area cooler.
And we got busy putting together our 4 season tree art project.
My assistant and I prepped the paper by drawing lines on a large blue sheet of construction paper to divide it into four parts. I also took a small {regular size} sheet of construction paper and folded it into 4 parts and drew a sketch of a tree on one side.
My class cut out the trunks so that they had 4 identical trees to put on their paper. This was tough for some of my kinders, but overall they tried hard and did well. We then glued the four trees on the blue paper, one in each box.
We decorated one square each day for each season. We started with summer, since we are technically still in summer.

We added green grass to the bottom and then glued down torn green pieces of construction paper.
We also talked about the things we do in the summer.

The next day we talked about fall. We added colored rice to the fall tree to make it look like the leaves were changing. We added leaves to the ground as well since the leaves fall. We kept the grass green, because where we live, the grass actually stays green for a while still.

Wednesday, we discusses Winter. We added small squares of tissue paper to the tan grass. Because we are in GA, we don't see snow a lot, but we do see light brown grass covered in frost. We also added glue streaks in the air to show the cold wind blowing.

For Spring, we added the season Spring. We glued down light green grass and sponge painted green buds on the branches.

The best thing about buying items on TpT and TN is the ability to redownload them when seller make changes and updates. I have gone into my There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves files and cleaned them up, added a TON of materials, and polished them to look even cuter.

I added this sequencing sheet to the preview download so you can grab it for FREE on TpT only if you download the preview file.

Write Me Three Packs

What a weekend!
Hubs ran his FIRST 1/2 marathon at Disney World. (That is 13.1 miles for all those peeps like me who don't "get" the running lingo!")
We missed seeing him cross the finish line because traffic getting to him so SO BAD! We waited 45 minutes to get a bus to get there. He did great though and we were so proud of him! Then, we celebrated our sweet daughter's 4th birthday with PRINCESS PRINCESS PRINCESS everything!
After driving home all day, we arrived home at 8:30pm and yes- I am teaching in the am!

I had lots of computer time in the car to create... so I am busy loading those items to TpT, which is taking me forever!

I had so many requests for items this past week. I have tried my very best to follow up and follow through... if I forget, just email me again. (I get over 100 emails a day!!)

So many people loved my Write Me Three Christmas freebie and asked for a pack dedicated to these writing activities... so I created one just for the Winter!
here on TpT, here on TN
Each activity comes with its own word wall and writing prompt(s).
It is made for easy student use and writing success! You can level these writing activities as well.

Then, I created a Spring Pack as well!
here on TpT, here on TN
I hope these meet up to your expectations and desires!
I am off the bed... I AM EXHAUSTED, but so very blessed!

Spring Art Ideas

I am pretty sure these art projects came from The Mailbox. That was my resource for art for so many years before Pinterest was founded! (Follow me on Pinterest to see all the stuff I find now!)

I always teach using art. The art project is a way to make the lesson memorable. We do not just do art for art sake. We read the book, The Perfect Nest and did these activities with our chicks.
We also read so many Easter book and did the bunny hop with our footprint bunnies.

I love having some spring art projects that can be used with Easter but do not have to be. Easter messes up my Spring curriculum map because it varies to much each year. Sometimes it is early, sometimes it is late.

Are you a fan of The Mailbox as well?

Forces and Motion

In this post, I am going to share my new Kindergarten Lesson Plans for Forces and Motions. It covers motion, pushes and pulls, what things move and do not move, force, and gravity.

I have discovered over time that many teachers do not teach this unit... at all!
SKP2. Students will investigate different types of motion.
a. Sort objects into categories according to their motion. (straight, zigzag, round and round, back and forth, fast and slow, and motionless)
b. Push, pull, and roll common objects and describe their motions.

SKP3. Students will observe and communicate effects of gravity on objects.
a. Recognize that some things, such as airplanes and birds, are in the sky, but return to earth.
b. Recognize that the sun, moon, and stars are in the sky, but don’t come down.
c. Explain why a book does not fall down if it is placed on a table, but will fall down if it is dropped.

I happen to LOVE teaching these ideas because THIS is when I intro verbs and collaborate with the PE teacher to do some FUN stuff. Since no one (even me!) likes to write out lesson plans, I did it for you!
I took the full lesson plans and added charts, activities, and great links to make this unit awesome for you. I didn't have to buy any graphics for this unit, so I made it super cheap... like 50 cents a day cheap.
I teach this after Space and in early spring.

Here is the link to this pack on TpT.
