Welcome to another addition of Center Saturday.
I have been LOVING your center questions week after week. I love hearing what questions you have like do I come up with and create my own centers? YES! I make, create, and choose all my center activities. I thought everyone did that! (Who or what dictated your center choices?)
This week my kinders are learning about the letter Dd, the word "had," rhyming words, numbers and patterns, and living and non living things.
Math- Since we are doing the letter Dd, I let my kids sort the dinosaur erasers. They LOVED this and I was able to assess sorting skills pretty quickly. I also asked students to create patterns and they rocked those as well. Double assessment score!
Writing- We practices writing our letters thus far from Recipe for Reading. Dd is a pretty tough letter to write and use (esp before you have taught Bb!) I try to use laminated paper with orange marker below. I also love using markers for students to write with.
Reading- We actually wrote this "story" at calendar last week. My class did such a GREAT job with it, I HAD to type it up and add a few pictures to help my non readers. I left the left side open for them to draw a pictures. We are working on "Using the Picture" and tracking text.
Phonics- We did a listening activity from Lakeshore on Rhyming Words. Some class LOVE these and some hate them... this group seems to really like them!
Unit- We did a few living and non living sorts and we also did a rhyming words worksheet.
I am hoping to add a few bonus centers in the near future. These are harder work centers that are optional, but great to challenge students who are ready. I reward students for completing any and all bonus centers.
