Don't you LOVE it when you do back to school, thinking...
"Man, I am going to be SO ready since I worked all summer to make my classroom better than ever!"
THEN you discover that you are in WAY over your head!
"Man, I am going to be SO ready since I worked all summer to make my classroom better than ever!"
THEN you discover that you are in WAY over your head!
Here are some of the improvements to my room... specifically for Daily 5 with freebies along the way.
Here is my classroom library. I do not give my kids the FULL selection of books, but I give them access to the books I have already introduced. After reading each book, I show my students how to sort the books into the labels bins. After a few week, I will put a selection of books away and intro another selection based off what we will be learning about.
We also started the Daily 5 this week. We are NOT teaching students to select their own books just yet. We are teaching them the 3 ways to read a book and using the reading strategies to check for understanding and using the pictures. We used the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What You do See?
BUT the great thing about reading strategies is that we used them for ALL our read alouds this week.
I created little readers for my class to color and read during their Read to Self time while they practice using "Use the Pictures" strategies for Brown Bear. {Grab them here for free.}
Here is my CAFE signs so far... {grab them here for free}
{Here} are my reading strategy cards I created.
AND... I made a HUGE discovery.
I needed a to post a schedule in my classroom for IEP accommodation.
(Hmm... prob should have done this a LONG time ago regardless.)
I did NOT have time to create one (and since my portable hard drive with ALL my graphic packs CRASHED and is at the doctor trying to get resuscitated... pray for it and me PLEASE.)
BUT I found this one from Cara Carroll for FREE!!!
This set is HUGE and had so many parts. It made putting together my schedule so easy.
I plan to add a cute border and eventually change my clocks to color code hour and minute hands.
You can grab them {here} for free!

Thank you for the freebies. Your room looks great!

Thanks for the update. We are also starting Daily 5 in kindergarten, but we are only half-day. We don't start school until Sept. 4...so keep the beginning of school year updates! You ROCK!

ReplyDeleteLove that you do not put all of your books out for your class. So many seem to be doing that. I will do what you do! Great bins! Where did you find them?

Those bins are from Really Good Stuff. I LOVE not putting out all my books. I think it is just too much for 5 year olds. This teaches them where to put things, plus it allows me to file MY books back in my units easily.
