I posted on SK Facebook Page for you guys to tell me what questions you have and what you want to know about iPads and iPods. {There are management issues that come up with using these devices.}
I have come basic rules for my room.
1. Before we leave the room, all iPads and iPods are collected and stored. They are never left out.
2. Devices must be on a table; they can not leave a table.
3. You can not play under someone else game or assignment.
4. Bad attitude mean you lose your turn.
Some of the games and apps are open- meaning anyone can play without signing in. This is cool because you can just play.
Other games can be assigned to a student and adapted to what that student needs. (Most of these apps also keep data for you so this is a HUGE plus!)
So how do you assign students to devices? Here is my biggest and best trick for doing this in my room. We had 17 students and used our devices daily in one small group, at the purple table.
First, I break my students into groups. I did color groups since we did small groups last year that their color was where I wanted that group to start at. (Orange names started at the orange table.) Mine are ability grouped... but I do not place my low babies in a group by themselves. I mix them up in the other groups.
Then, I assign one person from each color group onto a device. So using my orange table, easch student is assigned to a different device. {White iPad, White iPod, Black iPad, or Black iPod}
When that student gets to that table, they can use the little purple sheet I have to remind them where to do. That device as all their games on it.
Since all my low babies were at different groups, I was still able to change them around as needed. Additionally, problems with groups occur. as long as you switch students according to their device, you are fine. For example, I could swap Danny and Aly from different starting groups because they are assigned the same device and nothing gets messed up!
What other management questions do you have for using iPads and iPods in the classroom?

I have 2 ipod touches in my classroom and would love to expand with an ipad eventually. Anyway, Do you let your kids use any app they want? I'm trying to figure out a way to have my students work on specific apps at different times. Just wondering if you had any suggestions.
