I am so excited that another Mary gets to join the amazing world of Kindergarten teachers!
Head over to her blog to read my guest post to see how I do sight word assessment in my classroom.
This year my county is moving towards Fry words instead of Dolch.
I made a new sight word list for these words.
I followed the Fry lists... the one I had had the first 100, second 100 and third 100.
I made sure the first few lists covered color words, number words, and those easy words we start with {I, a, go, see, can}.

Our county uses the 31 sight words from our reading series plus 11 color words. However, my team and I added another 50 words from the Dolch pre-primer and primer lists. We cover 2 or 3 words a week. Most students do very well recognizing and reading the words.

We have been using the Dolch word lists too but this will be very helpful! I think some of the Fry words are more common and useful to the kids and I have also been using the Fry phrases for my higher kids for the last couple of years anyway!
